Fiona McDerment is a freelance writer, reviewer, and all-round word-fan based in Glasgow, Scotland

Words are my thing.

I am fascinated by the power of writing to influence, impact, and inform. I read extensively across a wide range of media, and this provides me a broad base from which to research and reflect. I love to communicate ideas, start discussions, and create space where readers can find common ground as well as new ways of looking at the world.

Currently open for commissions for a range of copywriting and written content including articles, internal and external business communications, and blog posts.

I’m most familiar with topics in the realm of Scotland (especially Glasgow and the central belt), language learning, parenting, working in projects and change environments, running a household while winging it through life, and budgeting with more ambition than success.

I love anything to do with books, bookshops (especially independents), reading - fiction, mainly - and writing reviews and recommendations.

In my day-job one of my key tasks is sorting through large volumes of information and working out what’s important, then being able to communicate that onward in a way that’s immediately relatable. If you’ve got a story to tell, or an idea to share, let me help you bring it to life for your audience.

I can offer a variety of services which you may find useful:

  • proof-reading of your own content

  • blog posts, short- and long-form

  • internal and external campaigns, emails, newsletters and mailshots

  • articles, editorials, how-tos, and other web or offline content

All delivered in a clear and understandable tone-of-voice which matches your individual or organisational style.
